How Urban Planning Is Reacting to the Urban Heat Island Effect

Urban heat islands have been a major area of research for urban planners and practice for urban planners for decades. There isn't the same type of regulatory framework that we have for dealing with other things like water quality or flooding. We just don't have that for heat, right. More and more cities are starting to build that regulatory capacity so you have cities like Miami and Phoenix that now have heat resilience officers.
