What Is the Origin of Wastewater Monitoring in the Pandemic?

At the beginning of the pandemic I was only vaguely aware the potential of wastewater monitoring. More recently we've been looking for polio which we can also find in wastewater. We have a circulating among people 99 of the cases you know people picking up this polio is asymptomatic and unfortunately that poor man who got paralytic polio is just the tip of the iceberg.
