The Pros and Cons of Phosphorus in Lake Erie

David Schindler was an American who got a job in Canada and he was really interested in studying lakes. The Canadian government at the time had an idea to try to figure out what was polluting Lake Erie. One of the things the detergent industry was blaming was carbon from household sewage. David took one entire lake and he said, I'm going to dose this whole lake with just phosphorus and nitrogen. If there's an algae bloom, carbon is not a problem.
