Can Political Liberalis Survive Without a Better Economic System?

The question is, can political liberalis survive without a better support from the economic system? There is a line of thoughts or people that you can have a liberal democracy regardless of what kind of economy you run. And i think that that's not true. If you have extreme inequality, is very hard to support a liberal democratic system. The fundamental question is, how should our economy change in order to make sure that a liberal democracy is supported politically?
