The Importance of Anti-Folates
Yella Pragada or Yella Subarau arrived penniless in Boston from India. He actually started working as a, as a night porter in Brigham and Women's Hospital. And so he joined this lab in upstate New York and was synthesizing folic acid from scratch. In making folic acid,. he had all these intermediaries or precursors to folic acid, which served sort of like mimics or decoys. And these were used as anti folates. So he sent these to Sidney Farber who treated children with this drug leading to temporary but really dramatic remissions in these ALO kids.
