How Do Habits Form?
Forming habits is essentially saying, i'm going to reject the things that give me instantaneous feedback. So a habit starts with a cue, or what is called a trigger. If you hear the ding of email, that's a trigger for me to go down a pathway of checking my email. Then there is a routine, something you'll go due. And then third is the reward. There's some sort of pay off for it. That's where the dop men hit comes from. It doesn't start with me saying, i want to do x, so i're going to go do xis that we have a craving to do something.
