"I was working for Whitney Systems. And he took me over and showed me this 27-footer Whitney Systems that built, was in and out of a hole with foam in between." "And I got a whole, and Whitney said, yeah, I'll be interested in building a 41-foot boat, build a series of them," says Jack O'Mara. 'We sold 37 boats at that show? In one show,. we took the deposits on 37 boats. And then it was built 37 boats.' After being fired from his job as an engineer by U.S. Navy officials, O' Mara decided to start up his own shipbuilding business.
