Leo the Second - A Brief History

i won't pretend to be able to sum up the significance of leo's reign. However, it's interesting to thnk about the comparisons between east and west. In the west, the empire ceased to exist when a german military commander dispensed with the imperial system. It is possible that something similar might have happened in the east, if germanic military influence hadn't been checked. But it was, and leo's careful handling of aspar was largely responsible for it.
