The Great Mythology of the World
The great traditional archetype uniting and summarizing all is the this that which i have just mentioned of the cosmic mountain. The old Sumerian myth of the origins of the universe which comes and goes comes and goes is that the cosmic sea which is called the world mother. From that center we have the four directions north south east and west each with its symbolic sense. And as we mount that we mount through the stages of the heavens and dante mounted certainly he went up the mountain of purgatory and then from the mountain ofpurgatory up through the stages to the very throne of god at the top.
