The CDC's Change in the Definition of AIDS
ACT UP succeeded in increasing eligibility for women with AIDS by tens of thousands of people. The organization also spread its focus toward other issues not directly tied to AIDS and in some cases formed coalitions with other groups that were united in anger. In 1989, the group protested inside and outside St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City against Cardinal O'Connor's homophobic anti-condum teachings.
