Ibn Khaldun: Competition within the group basically eats away at Asabia. Plato wanted to replicate military aristocracy of Sparta in order to realize his ideal republic, but he wanted to take away all property or avenues of competition through wealth because that creates an internal competition for power. He says there is simply something about the structure of human social relationships that sort of requires the group to invest its energies into one person as a representative.
