The Importance of Time
The most important thing here is the necessity of appreciating time, whether in a determinant or an indeterminate form. There must be some power whereby we distinguish a longer from a shorter interval. It is perhaps in the case of distances in space, just as it is with figures, one has to assume the possession of another analogous figure in the mind itself. When the suggestion of the thing and the suggestion of time coincide, we have actual memory. Memory takes place even if one does not remember in the lighter way.
