The Beatnicks: A History of the Movement

The beat nicks, as far as I understand it, weren't necessarily political or certainly weren't communistic. They refer to themselves as the beats and then they were called the beat nicks because of the connection to Sputnik. The spiroagno was Richard Nixon's vice president,. He was like Nixon's point person in the cultural wars. And he gives this speech where he says there is no conspiracy among songwriters, entertainers, and movie producers to subvert the unsuspecting listener.
