What's at Stake in the Crimean War?
The Crimean War is an attempt to maintain the Vienna settlement. The British were determined that postwar Europe would not fall under the sway of another great warlord, as it had under Napoleon. So what the British do at Vienna is they hand in many of the advantages they have as an economic and colonial superpower. They don't put any troops into Europe, but they order Europe in a way that makes it effectively self-balancing.
