Research in the past decade has really explored the effects of the gut microbium on metablism, immune system, sleep, moods and cognition. The last ten years or so have been called the decade of the microbyon because it wasn't really until maybe two thousand and ten or so that this stuff really took off. As the field has gathered steam, people have taken stool samples from different pays to see if there are any correlations between what's in the stools and what is in the gut.
