The Ganges Is a Sacred Place for Pilgrims
You go along the river and there are the Gats which is really a name for the stone kind of docks that line the river. There's bathing Gats where pilgrims will come because the Ganges water is sacred. And then you go to the fabled burning Gats which are the places where people are brought along the river to about every 20 minutes or so day and night. They'll carry a body down on a bamboo stretcher wrapped in silk and flowers and chanting rahm nam satchahhe rahmNamSatchahhe.
