When a tree fruit is growing down into the soil, it's looking for water and nutrients. It starts to form this really amazing symbiotic relationship with fungus. And so as they grow out and meet more and more roots, it creates these huge below ground networks which we sometimes like to call the wood wide web. We probably never thought that trees would communicate with one another.
