The Importance of Fasting
Yahweh says, return to me with all of your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning. End your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God for he's gracious,. He's compassionate, he's slow to anger, abounding in covenant loyalty. So we have this image here of repentance, of turning to God from my selfishness and sin. One of the appropriate responses is to not eat for a day.
