In the late eighteenth, early nineteenth century, you had basely prison experiments where they were locking people up in all different kinds of conditions and seeing what would rehabilitate them. So this like, merging of these religious ideas and these ustrialists, capitalist ideas that were all sort of converging at the time. And then as time goes on, and, you know, this sort of idea of rehabilitation starts to fall away,. Then it becomes almost a, the idea of rehabilitation, or providing services to prisoners has become coddling prisoners. Providing education, providing treatment, a this is not punishment enough.
