Should Elected Officials Serve as Representatives of Their Constituents?
In mass democracies, representatives do shape opinion, and they do lized constituencies. But from another perspective, it's not the people organically rising up and demanding certain things. So when we think about political leadership, when do we cross the line between forming constituencies and acting as democratic leaders? I want to say that it's working just fine when it does those things, even though it violates our model.
