Europe has been increasing its defense expenditure, but there is still a very long way to go if Europe is to really start taking responsibility for its own defense and security. It is of course perfectly possible that the war might continue for another 500 days. In that timeframe, we can see a President Trump re-elected and potentially the withdrawal of the USA from NATO. This isn't the most likely outcome, but it isn't an outlandish one. But we might, on the other hand, see Ukraine, equipped with F-16s, defeat Russia and take a well-earned spot inside NATO.
