The flawless main character can quickly become a punching bag for the plot. So it's not that you have to like completely avoid the cliché. It's finding your own unique story for your main character as the chosen one. What are their flaws? That's a really good place to start with their misbeliefs and figuring out where those misbel beliefs came from.
