Belshazzar was the son and crown prince of nabenidus. He was not the sole ruler at this time, but was in a co regency with his father. Many scholars also believe that nebuchadnezzar was belshazzar's maternal grandfather. After him, there were four very short reigns of kings before nabanidas came to the throne in five, 50 b c.
