The Importance of Companions in the Prophet's Life

Medina was the place where the Prophet lived and established his polity. That's where Islamic law was first manifest in an actual governing system. The people knew him, he lived with them, they learnt from him how to live as good Muslims. Yet we have no idea how Jesus looked at all. In Islam we even know what he looks like thanks to the preserved texts of Imam Malik.
