The growth of knowledge is unpredictable. So, even if there is a sense in which you might be failing at your goal, so to speak, the goal might not actually be the point. Along the way, you discover new avenues, new technologies and new techniques that could potentially change the world. We're waiting now on the engineers and experimentalists to catch up to his vision. Experiments are hard, engineering is hard, but what we can thank David Deutsch for is knowing that these other scientists and engineers are on the ground.
