The Contingency of Beliefs
Descartes talked about needing to rebuild his beliefs on what he called secure foundations. But it's not at all clear that there are any certain axioms that nobody could possibly doubt. An alternative model put forward by the Austrian philosopher Otto Neirart in the 1930s is that you can't start from scratch completely.
