The Status of the Milkweed Limitation Hypothesis
The so-called milkweed limitation hypothesis is that monarchs have declined because there's just less milkweed available to them throughout their range. The status of that hypothesis is that it's still alive, but it's not kind of the dogma that it was maybe even five years ago. There's no relatively strong quantitative data that protozoan parasite infections have increased from about 1% to 10%, quantitatively increasing over the last 18 years.
