Janus Varfakis is an economist and he served as the finance minister of Greece. He has since become a prominent activist and politician in Europe, calling for a non-aligned movement. But I think his most important contribution is his work as an economist. He brilliantly explains just how unfair and exploitative the global capitalist system is. The highest form of neo-imperialism is financialized capitalist globalization. It's based on the hegemony of the US dollar.
