Herodotus - A History of the Ancient World

Most of the surviving ancient greek literature indeed is in some form athenian. Herodotus travelled to many other places before he came to athens. Thouso: We have to imagine this man off his own bat and travelling with merchants or with mercenaries, to strange parts of the world. He's probably got little wax tablets. And he's using that relatively recent invention of the greek alphabet to record the words of the people that he interviews.
