The End of the Story
I think that an extreme emphasis on a particular type of eschatology actually has turned the church away from a core conviction of church history in our creeds, which is Jesus is coming back. And here it says, when we see him, we shall become like he is and whoever has this hope in them purifies themselves just as he is pure. I think that this tells us something about hope, that hope for the Christian is not static, it moves us. That hope does not simply wait upon God in patient resignation, but it resolves to move forward in the confident expectation that God's grace is more powerful than human sin. It is driven by the firm belief that God is reconciling
