The Schubert Theatre Corporation and the Great Depression

Schubert theatrical corporation went bankrupt in 19 31. Two years later, lee schubert was actually able to buy back the company's assets for just 400 thousand dollars. With that, he then formed a new company called select theatres. And there were a number of little twists to the story here. After sigfeld died in 19 32, his widow, billy burke, asked them to help her get out of debt and produce zig feld follies. So their follies, the sigfeld follies, produced by the schuberts, would feature big stars like fanny bryce eve arden and others.
