If you are going to use a momentum strategy, which is just chasing return, make sure that it's in some way automated and the decisions are taken out of your hands. The trouble is if we're running a quant strategy from our bedroom, we have the ability to turn the machine off. And override it. So for example, at the moment, everyone's talking about managed futures funds, because they do very well when markets are trending up or down. Whereas a quant strategy would simply say, no, dump it.
