The History of the Suez Canal
In 1888, the Convention of Constantinople was signed. It regulated the use of the canal and confirmed the right of all ships to use it in times of both peace and war. In 1952, a bloke whose name is Gamal Abdel NASA overthrew the Egyptian monarchy. He nationalized the Suez Canal; he also cut Israel off from the Red Sea as well by closing the Egyptian controlled Straits of Tehran to Israeli ships. This triggered what's known today as the Suez Crisis. And shortly after this, France and Britain made an ultimatum to Israel: You better bloody withdraw.
