Acceptance - What Does It Mean?

What does acceptance really mean? This is where it gets a little tricky, because a simple google search for the definition of acceptance will show you various definitions. So i bring that up because i think it's important to be able to distinguish between the two if we want to get to the topic of acceptance. What is acceptance and how do we practise it?
