Saul's Leadership Flaws

Saul is preoccupied, perhaps even obsessed with religious formalism. This account highlights one of Saul's major weaknesses and leadership flaws. The reference to honey on the ground should probably not be taken as a reference to manna. Some scholars believe that much of the honey referred to in the Bible was not be honey at all but a sweet syrup produced artificially from grapes or dates.
