Alice Neil's work is so about New York. She chose her sitters and they were people who were in her neighborhood. The intimacy of this gaze was very much shaped in the neighborhood. So she uses that same gaze when she's painting, for example, Andy Warhol. And I left wanting to look at the world through Alice Neil's eyes.
