The assassination had been carried out by the hagana, the military wing of the left islabor zinist movement. The british were beginning to realize that this old balford declaration thing was going to be a lot more trouble than they thought. There had been a small, but hard corps, highly motivated group of military and political officials who had never liked any of this. They didn't want their name on something like this. Even if it was being ordered from all the way on high, they refused the order.
