King was a very modest and humble man in a way. He wouldn't even put carpet down in the in the rooms in the house where were guests would see it because he thought it it reeked of opulence. I think that also touches on a modern cut in Christianity between the social gospel that the job of Christians are to help poor people man the soup kitchens and the other prosperity gospel that our job is to get rich because that's what God wants. It's more I guess conservative Christianity something like that.
