The Meaningless Do

In 1580s the words typhoon and monsoon also appeared in English documents for the first time. Both words entered English via Portuguese because Portuguese sailors had encountered those storms while traveling to India and China. The word frigate was a common term used by French and Italian sailors in the Mediterranean but now it came into English. I should note that the Dutch word yacht also entered English around this same time.
