The Origins of Bioelectricity
The body's communication is indeed bioelectrical signaling and that property is shared by all living things. Nerves didn't invent electrical signaling. Like this method of intracellular communication is millions of years old. And so going deeper than the nervous system is absolutely necessary to understanding how life works. Today we know more about how cells generate electricity. That is, they move around positively and negatively charged molecules called ions of potassium, sodium, calcium, and magnesium.
