Learning Is Not an Educational Thing
When you zoom in on the word learning it evaporates, he says. It's not an educational word so if you say the point of the school or the point of education is to make students learn then you are not saying anything about what’s special about the school because you can learn anywhere. If we just understand that process then we know how to do schooling and so that worries me about say the learning sciences. I often very quickly say learning to ride a bike learning that two and two equals four Learning the second law of thermodynamicslearning to be patient learning that you're not good at something they are all legitimate uses of the word learning but they refer to very different processes.
