CHAPTER

The Horror of Slavery

Slavery is unlike any other form of human relation because it is not a moral relation. Any one who refused was slapped on the face by his abductor and kept as a captive he had accepted the contempt, which deprived him of personality. Tiv horror stories about men who are dead but do not know it, or who are brought back from the grave to serve their murderers all seem to play on this essential horror of slavery. A slave must obey because if he doesn't, he can be beaten, tortured or killed.
