The Disagreement of the High Priesthood
Phineas was jealous for the Lord's honor, concerned to prevent any assault upon it. For their dishonoring of the Lord, they will themselves be despised and abased before the people. By teaching the people to dishonor their master, the priests ironically denigrated their own office. The reference to having one father could conceivably concern Abrahamic fatherhood.
