Motivation 2.0: Heuristic Work

Heuristic work means you need to have certain knowledge in a domain and be able to improvise depending on what happens. These kinds of jobs are what we would typically think of as maybe the professions. 70% of job growth in the US in 2005 was used to heuristic work, only 30% was algorithmic work. You can't really improve people's creative or problem solving by giving them rewards. In fact, usually it worked quite badly if you try to give them rewards.
