The Elephant in the Room
After earning out our problems and both agreeing to eat better and exercise, my girlfriend told me how her dresses don't feel as loose as they did a few months ago. And she went into detail on how much weight she had gained in such a short space of time. To which I replied with, well, at least we address the elephant in the room. A phrase she had never heard before. But even then even that phrase is not very nice in that context context because you're like, okay, I'm glad you said it. Like we're all thinking it.
