The Romans valued emotions so much because they're the moving forces. Their word for cowardice is their word for lack of movement inertia, which we still have in English. You had to demonstrate to yourself and to others that you had energy vigor by party. That's why the Romans made words of stone and aqueducts that would last thousands of years.
