How I Navigated New York City as a Kid
I roller skated all over the city. I bought a pretzel for a quarter, a New York slice of pizza for 75 cents. It was when block parties were real block parties. My mom and I could only go out to eat to Chinese or Mexican or ethnic restaurants because I didn't eat meat. But at least with those restaurants, they've always had rice. So I would ask for Tabasco and soy sauce. And my mom would say, it's okay, you can give it to her. The server would always look at me like this four year old or five year old was asking for Tabas co.
