The History of the Hawaiian Islands
Archaeologists are not quite sure when the first itinerant Polynesian set foot on the archipelago. Latest radiocarbon dating suggests that you in settlement off the Hawaiian Islands took place somewhere between 950 at the earliest and 1320 the latest. Native Hawaiian oral histories collected in the 1800s recorded that at the time, so in the mid-1800s, there had been about 28 generations of Hawaiians. But native Hawaiian mythology talks about there also having been people on the islands before the Polynesian arrival.
