David Crystal was editor of the first edition of the Cambridge Encyclopedia. He tells an anecdote about a time when he tried to keep it up to date with events in the world. The book will come out in six months time, by which time there may or may not be a Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) "If I don't put it in and there is, the book will be laughed at," says Crystal.
