The Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access Issue in Volunteering
Volunteering is a debate that's raged in many countries since the murder of George Floyd. I'm already seeing this in hearing from organisations about volunteers who've never claimed expenses before and are now asking to claim. Re-embursement of expenses is an inclusion, diversity, equity and access issue. If we're not offering people that money, we're saying only those people who can afford to be out of pocket can volunteer for us. And we're shrinking that pool because more and more people are struggling to pay the bills,. put food on the table, heat the homes for crying out loud.
